Learn why you need a PIN

To protect your financial data, Google Wallet requires a 4-digit PIN code. When you set up Google Wallet, the device lock is turned on automatically.

If you don’t want to enter your PIN every time you wear your device, you can set it to ask for your PIN only when you make a payment. For more information, refer to Reduce PIN frequency.

Turn on the device lock
  1. At the top left, tap Connections and then your device.
  2. Tap Device preferences and then Device Lock.
  3. Turn on Device Lock and set a 4-digit PIN code.
Reduce PIN frequency

Change the security level so your device only asks for your PIN when you make a payment.

  1. At the top left, tap Connections and then your device.
  2. Tap Device preferences and then Device Lock.
  3. Tap Wallet Only to change the setting to “Enabled for Google Wallet Only.”
    • Default setting: Your device locks automatically when you take it off your wrist.
    • Wallet Only: Your device remains unlocked for daily use but will ask for the PIN when you open Google Wallet.
Troubleshoot forgotten PIN

If you forget your PIN, enter an incorrect PIN 10 times, or get the message "Unlock with your phone" on your device screen, follow these steps:

Step 1: Reset your PIN in the Google Health app

Important: Resetting your PIN deletes all payment cards from Google Wallet on your device. You’ll need to add them again.

  1. At the top left, tap Connections and then your device.
  2. Tap Device preferences and then Device Lock.
  3. Select Reset PIN Code.

Step 2: Sync your device with the app

Important: Your device doesn’t sync with the app if the "Device Lock" option is missing, greyed out, or you get the error "Can't delete tokens when device settings are missing."

  1. Force quit the Google Health app and re-open it.
  2. Try to sync your device by pulling down on the Today tab .
  3. If the device syncs successfully, retry step 1.

Step 3: Factory reset your device

If your device screen is stuck on "Unlock with your phone" and the app can’t connect to unlock it, perform a manual factory reset. This erases all data on the device and lets you set it up as new.
