How to update your Fitbit device

Before you start, make sure your Fitbit is charged and that you have the latest version of the Google Health app on your phone or tablet. Here are some things to know:

  • If you update your Fitbit device right as the day changes (at midnight), your step count might be wrong for a day.
  • Updates may take more than one hour to complete.
  • To keep the update loading, keep the Google Health app running.

To update your Fitbit device:

  1. Open the Google Health app  with your Fitbit nearby.
  2. At the top left, tap Connections and then your device.
  3. Tap Update.
    • Tip: This is only available when there's an update available.
  4. Follow the directions on the screen and keep your Fitbit close to your phone, tablet, or computer. After you start the update, a progress bar appears on your device and in the Google Health app until the update is complete.

How to update the firmware on a Fitbit scale

Your Fitbit scale checks for updates by itself. When there's an update, it downloads and installs it. If you get a progress bar on the scale that checks for updates, wait until it's finished before you weigh yourself.
