Step up your workouts with the Exercise app on certain Fitbit devices.
A variety of exercises are available in the Exercise app . Choose the option that best suits your activity (for example, if you attend a spin class, use Spinning). If your exercise isn’t included, choose Workout.
- For Fitbit Charge 5, Fitbit Charge 6, Fitbit Inspire 3, Fitbit Luxe, Fitbit Sense series, Fitbit Versa series, and Google Pixel Watch series, all exercises are available in the Exercise app
. They can’t be reordered on Charge 6, Sense series, Versa series, or Google Pixel Watch series.
- Charge 5, Charge 6, Inspire 3, Luxe, Sense series, Versa 3, Versa 4, and Google Pixel Watch series show your most recently used exercises in the Exercise tile or at the top of the Exercise app

Google Health app
- Open the Google Health app
- At the top left, tap Connections

- Tap Exercise Shortcuts and make your changes:
- Tap Add
to add an exercise.
- To remove an exercise, swipe left on a shortcut and tap Delete.
- To reorder the exercises, press and hold a shortcut, and drag it up or down to change its position.
- Tap Add
- Sync your device.
- On your device, open the Exercise app
and swipe to find an exercise. If GPS is available, an icon will appear in the top left corner while your device tries to connect.
- Tap the exercise to choose it.
- Select Play
to start the exercise, or Flag
(Versa series only) to set a goal. If you set a goal, tap Play
in the bottom right to start.
- Tap the middle of the screen to scroll through your real-time stats.
- Tap Pause
to pause or end your workout. To resume, tap Play
.
If you set an exercise goal, your watch vibrates and flashes when you reach it. - To end the workout, tap Flag
Confirm.
- Review your workout summary, and then exit the app.
- To check your GPS data in the Google Health app, select the Today tab

- On your device, press the button until you get to the Exercise screen.
- Tap the display to find an exercise.
- Press and hold the button to start the exercise. If GPS is available, an icon will appear in the top left corner as your phone tries to connect.
- During your workout, tap your tracker to scroll through real-time stats. An indicator next to the number of beats per minute shows your progress toward maximum heart rate.
- Press the button to pause your workout. Then press it again to resume the exercise.
- To end the workout, press and hold the button. A flag icon and congratulatory message will appear.
- Press the button to view a summary of your results. Press it again to cycle through your stats.
- Review your workout summary, and then exit the app.
- To check your GPS data in the Google Health app, tap the Today tab

- On your tracker, open the Exercise app
and swipe to find an exercise. Tap to select.
- Tap Start or Set Goal. If you have set an exercise goal, press the button to go back and then tap Start.
- Tap Play
to begin. If the exercise uses GPS, wait for the signal to connect, or start the exercise and GPS will connect when a signal is available. Note that GPS can take minutes to connect.
- Tap the middle of the screen to scroll through your real-time stats.
- Press the button when you're done with your workout or just want to pause it. If you set a goal, your tracker vibrates and flashes when you reach it.
- To end the workout, press the button again and select Finish. Swipe up to view your workout summary. Tap the check mark to close the summary screen.
- To check your GPS data in the Google Health app, select the Today tab

- Tap the exercise to select it. If the exercise requires GPS, you can either wait for the signal to connect (recommended), or begin the workout and GPS will connect when a signal becomes available. - Select Play
to begin your workout, or swipe up to choose an exercise goal or adjust the settings.
- Tap the middle of your screen to scroll through your real-time stats. To pause your workout, swipe up and tap Pause

- When you're done with your workout, swipe up and tap Pause

- Swipe up and select Done to close the summary screen.

- Swipe up and tap the Exercise app
to open it. Recent exercises appear at the top.
- Select an exercise, or tap All exercises to check the complete list of options.
- Swipe up to find an exercise then tap the exercise to choose it.
- Select Play
to start the exercise or tap the Goal icon to set a goal. Enter your goal then select Play
.
- If the exercise requires GPS, you can either wait for the signal to connect or begin the workout and GPS will connect when a signal becomes available. Note that GPS can take minutes to connect.
Your Google Pixel Watch may auto-detect an exercise and prompt you to start an exercise. You can disable specific or all exercise auto-detect notifications in the exercise settings prompt. You may dismiss the notification, tap the crown button, or swipe right to return to the main watch face.
To disable the reminders:
- Open the Exercise app on your Google Pixel Watch.
- Select an exercise then tap Settings
.
- Turn on End workout reminders for your exercise.
- During the workout, swipe left to open media controls.
- To pause your workout, swipe right then tap Pause.
- When you're done with your workout, swipe right then tap End. Your workout summary appears.
- To check your GPS data in the Google Health app, select the Today tab

- On your watch, open the Exercise app
.
- Tap Run
Stacks
to display the default and saved runs.
- Select the workout you want to open.
- Here, you can make edits to the workout, which are automatically saved. If you want to start the workout, tap play
.
Any saved runs will appear in the Fitness tab in the Google Health app on your phone, and in the Fitbit Exercise app on your watch.

- Select Play
to begin your workout, or swipe up to choose an exercise goal or adjust the settings.
- Tap the large stat to scroll through your real-time stats. To pause your workout, swipe up and tap Pause
. Note that if you set an exercise goal, your watch will vibrate and flash when you reach it.
- When you're done with your workout, swipe up and tap the End icon
End. Your workout summary appears.
- Select Done to close the summary screen.
You might unintentionally press the button on your watch when you bend your wrist. This may happen during activities like workouts that require you to move your wrist a lot. Wear your watch higher on your wrist so you don’t accidentally hit the button. For tips on how to wear your watch, refer to How do I wear my Fitbit device?
On most devices, tap the screen to check various stats during your workout. This includes calories burned, time elapsed, and your heart rate and heart-rate zone.
On all Google Pixel Watch, Sense, and Versa series devices, you can also customize the stats shown on the screen:
- On your watch, open the Exercise app

- Swipe through the list of workouts to find the one you want to customize.

Capture GPS data, which includes a workout intensity map that displays your pace, distance, and heart-rate zones, with built-in or connected GPS on your device. Only activities where you cover physical distance outdoors, like a run, walk, hike, or bike ride, offer GPS tracking.

Receive time or distance-based updates on your Fitbit device during a workout. For the Google Pixel Watch series, open the Google Health app and tap Exercise days to check your splits. You can do this after you complete a run and sync your device. Alternatively, you can set up Alerts for 1 km splits while you workout. These splits are included in the post workout summary.

Most Fitbit devices, Google Fitbit Air, and Google Pixel Watch 3 & 4 automatically detect and save activities, so you don’t have to tell your watch to start a workout. Plus, with easy manual logging, you can always capture your workouts after you’ve caught your breath.
Activity detection on Fitbit Air, Pixel Watch 3 & 4
Google Pixel Watch 3 & 4 offer activity detection, which detects common activities and adapts to your behavior. When you confirm your activity or save a detected activity as something else, you personalize the algorithm to detect the activities you do most.
In the app, you can confirm, delete, or change the detected activity. Based on the exercise, you’ll also find suggested activities tailored to your routines. Confirming your activities helps personalize the algorithm, allowing the feature to better recognize the activities you do most over time.
Review a detected activity
- For activities completed today, find the workout recap on the Today tab
.
- For activities completed previously, find the workout under Recent activities on the Fitness tab
.
Confirm or edit an activity
- To confirm the detected activity, go to the workout recap and tap the detected activity
- To edit the detected activity, go to the workout recap and tap one of the suggested activities, or tap More options

Delete a detected activity
- For activities completed today, tap Delete from the workout recap on the Today tab
.
- For activities completed previously, open the workout from Recent activities on the Fitness tab
and tap Delete .
- You can always delete any activity by tapping [kebab icon] the vertical menu icon and selecting Delete.
Control minimum duration and turn off certain activities:
- In the Google Health app, tap your Profile picture.
- Tap Google Health settings

- Tap an activity type and then adjust the Minimum duration by activity type or turn off Detect automatically.
Log an undetected activity
- If an activity goes undetected, you can always manually log your workout in the Google Health app.
- Premium subscribers can also log workouts by chatting with the AI Health Coach.
Improve activity detection
Activity detection gets smarter the more you use it. For the best experience:
- Confirm your automatically detected activities or update them, choosing from 150 options
- Select the activity types and minimum durations you’d like to automatically save in settings
You can also improve the accuracy of distance and related metrics by calibrating your device. To do so, manually track a 10-minute outdoor walk or run on your device. If you have a Fitbit Air, be sure to bring your phone with you.

Get real time activity alerts with Start workout reminders and Auto Start features
Use Start workout reminders or Auto Start on your device to track your workout with real-time stats when it detects you’ve started an activity.
- Google Pixel Watch 2 and 3: Start workout reminders are on by default.
- Google Pixel Watch 4 (with version 3.43.1.805933656): Start workout reminders are off by default but can be enabled.
Tip: If you have reminders turned on and don't accept the notification, your activity will still be recorded automatically by activity detection.

For certain Fitbit devices, if you pause during a workout such as at a traffic light activity tracking pauses automatically while you’re stationary. This feature is known as auto-pause, and your device vibrates to indicate that activity tracking is paused.
Resume your workout, and your device vibrates again when exercise tracking restarts. If your device doesn’t detect activity for 10 consecutive minutes, a message appears on your screen to check if you want to end the exercise.
Tip: Exercise types that support this feature vary by device.
To turn this feature on or off:

What can I edit in a custom built workout?
Your watch provides alerts during intervals to update you on your run progress.
All alerts will include sound, haptics, and voice to notify you when you are above, in, or below your target pace range or heart rate zone.
Interval alerts appear between each interval. It provides updates on your previous and upcoming intervals.
If you set up a current pace range target, your watch alerts you if you’re below, in, or above range.
If you set up a target HR zone, your watch alerts you when you are above, in, or below the zone.
If you turn on split alert, your watch provides your pace every mile.
If you set up a time trial goal, your watch alerts you if you fall behind the range.
Your watch alerts you whenever your HR zone changes.
