The final fight of one of the most recognizable faces in Mixed Martial Arts topped off Bellator 170. Tito Ortiz made short work of Chael Sonnen to earn one last victory in a sport he helped make popular on the network and promotion he felt treated him best.

Fighters at the stage Ortiz and Sonnen are often hard to pick to win, especially when they’re fighting each other and you only have their last fights to go by. However Ortiz was in championship form for his last fight and full of energy as he entered the cage with his son. When the first round bell rang, it was obvious both fighters were anxious to finish one another.

However, it was Ortiz that would finally come out on top of Sonnen in every sense of the phrase. After a quick striking exchange Ortiz would initiate a takedown that Sonnen would attack with a D’arce choke, then a guillotine that seemed tight, but not tight enough. Ortiz would slip out of the submission hold and gain the mount position and take the back of “The American Gangster” to secure a rear naked choke.

In the post fight press conference when Ortiz was asked what’s next now that he is done fighting, he said he would like to do something with MMA and Bellator to help grow the promotion. But spending time with his family is something he is looking forward to.
