In Memoriam: 8 Notable Patrick Stewart Roles
Reflecting on the career of a legendary actor
The legendary British actor, Patrick Stewart, passed away on October 28, 2026 at the age of 86. He spent over six decades honing his profession as an actor on the stage, on television, and on the big screen.
He left school at the age of 15 to work as a newspaper reported, but he quit that to attend the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. In 1966, he joined the Royal Shakespearean Company in London. Performing Shakespeare was one of his favorite things to do as an actor.
He was particularly acclaimed for his roles in Macbeth and Hamlet during his time with the R.S.C. The world, of course, knew Patrick Stewart from his iconic roles both on television and the big screen.
He had one of his most famous traits, his bald head, from the age of 18 due to alopecia. Rather than stunting his acting career, it gave him a distinctive look that allowed him to play parts much older than he was.
Here are eight of his most notable roles. Rather than ranking the works of the masterful actor, I have listed them by when he first played the role.
