October 2013, I took a well-earned break in a 5-star resort hotel, about 400 meters from my front door!… Why go anywhere else when you live in paradise? And a client had given me a week free in his apartment in the resort… it made perfect sense.

Monday, mid-morning, I am lying next to this amazing pool with a cold beer, going through my emails! The beer had gone warm by the time I’d taken the next sip.
Hundreds of emails, one after another, no matter how fast I typed, the unread email number hardly budged.
At some point, my wife looked over and didn’t even have to say anything. She just gave me “that look”, And I saw myself the way everyone else was probably seeing me. A grown man, a workaholic on a beautiful morning, ignoring all of it to reply to people who’d have happily waited until Tuesday.
It’s no lie to say that that moment was genuinely life-changing… as since that moment I’ve adopted Inbox Zero… There and then, I downloaded and installed Sanebox and haven’t looked back. (I stopped using it several years ago, and I didn’t need it once the inbox zero habit was ingrained)
