When You’ve Suffered for Years, It’s Hard to Believe the Tables Can Turn
Against all odds, the universe finally worked in my favor. Here is what happens when your life's narrative changes abruptly.
Back in 2023, I resigned from a teaching job, where I taught ICT in a local technical institute. I was three months pregnant with my second child, and my gynecologist advised bed rest since standing all day risked my baby’s safety.
I didn’t have much of a choice but to give up my job during that period.
It was a scary move for me, because I did not have a plan B. But I knew I would hunt for freelance writing gigs on my Upwork account. I did not want to be wholly dependent on my husband financially.
I have always been financially independent, so even though I would be at home, I wanted to be doing something that would bring in some money in the meantime.
Luckily, I landed a client I worked with for a few months before the contract ended. And when my bundle of joy was born, that was it.
No more hustling.
I put my laptop aside for about 9 months. Motherhood did what it does best. Everything paused, and my career, job, and money were no longer a priority.
