While I’m thrilled to be nearing the weekend, I’m sorry to see another week end of writing my prompts. It’s been a blast, but tomorrow, I hand the reins over to my cat, Huey, for his turn to participate in Animal House Vignettes. I don’t know who’s more excited to inspire your stories: him or me?

I hope today’s story will come easily as fiction, but you never know. I ask no questions.

In the meantime, I thank you for allowing me to be your prompt hostess for this week. I can’t wait to see what you create.

Don’t let the guidelines frighten you. If you haven’t read them yet, please do. They are at the bottom of this post.

As in the updated guidelines, our stories must now fall between 150 and 300 words and will be called Vignettes. The name reflects what they are — short, vivid snapshots of fiction, often with the daily word and a twist. These Vignettes will become our new standard, helping us stay in Medium’s distribution stream and reach more readers.

If you’re new to Fiction Shorts, please read the guidelines.

A few friendly rules that you don’t want to miss:

  1. Ensure your words don’t exceed 300 words. (Use Medium’s word counter.)
