Key Catastrophes

One of our front door keys My photo

Have you read that we don’t lock our doors to keep out would-be burglars or murderers? But it turns out we have to lock our front door to keep a certain two year old in?

On Monday morning, Keeley locked the door on her way out. She put the key on a scooter outside the door. Carl arrived in the afternoon. Wind had blown scooter away from the door. Carl said he could see the key in the grate but couldn’t reach it. I opened the door with the other key which I keep on top of the pantry out of reach of a certain escapee.

On Tuesday, Keeley flew in from lectures, threw her uni bag in her room, and we took off for trivia. She hadn’t turned the car off and didn’t think about it until she turned the car off at trivia. Of course, I got the blame. When I’m in charge of the key, I wear it on a lanyard round my neck.

This has happened before so you think she’d learn. She called her sister Lexi to go get the car key from her uni bag. Luckily, we don’t lock the house.

So disaster averted. Originally we had two keys for the car we share. She lost one a couple of years ago while walking the kids in the pram along the esplanade at Sandgate. Apparently she gave the key to one of them to play with and they threw it out of the pram. She retraced her steps. No luck.
