Be Someone Else’s Glitch
A small interruption in the everyday trance
Highway Hypnosis. No, it’s not Stephen King’s next novel.
It’s when you drive for five blocks without any memory of it. Autopilot on. Then you wonder if you ran a red light.
Frankie, my van, has a bumper sticker: HONK FOR PEACE.
Not many honk. So I forget.
When a car honks, my autopilot goes off. “What?! What did I do wrong? Is my Frankie losing a limb?!”
Then, a smiling face passes by, hand waving.
I smile and wave back, excited. “Someone honked!”
For a second, I become their glitch — and they become mine.
For a second, we’re both awake.
