The thing I missed most while I was renting a bedroom from a coworker and friend over the past year and a half was having my own kitchen. I’d spend part of my days off cooking, trying to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner prepped for the coming week. I’d also try to be finished in the kitchen between 4:30 pm and 5 pm, when Kristin came home from work. She never made me feel like I was in the way, but I still felt awkward taking over her kitchen when she was home and would also need to use it.

Now that I’ve moved into my own place and have my own kitchen, I’m taking full advantage of it. I still love cooking big pots of soup to have for the next week (or longer), but I can also use it for fun. Once October hit, I decided to make some pumpkin & chocolate chip muffins!

I made the muffins at home, ate one that night, and then took the rest to work the next day. I took a few into the visitor center for our staff there, and the rest into the main office next door. There were only two of us working in the visitor center that week, so those lasted longer. The muffins I took to the office disappeared within hours.

My little apartment was warm from the oven, and it smelled incredible.
