Each camera has a unique set of gpio assignments. These are stored as environment variables in a 64KB region of flash (offset 0x40000-0x50000) and they are read by UBoot, the Thingino Linux kernel, and Thingino user programs. The get utility can retrieve the value of such a variable, and it can be set with fw_setenv and printed with fw_printenv.

To correlate the gpio assignments in Thingino with the pins of the IC, use this formula:

GPIO# = 32 * n + bit
n = 0 for PA, 1 for PB, 2 for PC, etc
bit = pin number within port, 0-31

List of gpio_ variables

Most of the variables are explained on the Camera Configuration page. In addition, there is:

  • gpio_scl/gpio_sda - these are the clock and data lines for an I2C device. Currently unused in Thingino.
  • gpio_sub1g - some cameras have a 925MHz CC1101 or similar transceiver, which is enabled with this pin.
  • gpio_default_net - GPIOs configured at boot only if the device lacks a physical ethernet connection.

Thingino GPIO assignments as of 2025/05/11 21:00:00 EDT -0400
