Where a Milestone Meets a Slice of Sweet Magic!
The Art of Dessert Fusion
This year marked my 50th milestone. The birthday felt special and brought back a flood of bittersweet memories as I wondered how half a century had unfolded. An integral part of almost every birthday until now has been the joy and excitement of cutting my birthday cake.
Decades ago, my mother would make an annual trip a month before my birthday to order a big birthday cake from a much-loved bakery in another part of town. Each year, we had detailed discussions about the cake’s theme and flavor, with so many considerations.
We considered the ideal shape, the number of guests, feedback from the previous year, and more. A storybook, a piano, Goldilocks, and many other birthday cake shapes made it into my special-day celebrations!
This year, I told my family I wanted a very simple dinner with them, to bask in gratitude for all I have been blessed with over the past five decades. The good, the bad, the light, the heavy- everything that has made me who I am today.
I yearned for a simple day, so I could fully soak in the hugely extraordinary days that filled my past fifty years!
