I was married very young.
I was the mother and the child
at the same time.

I was the baby who rocked herself to sleep.
The mother who needed feeding.
The child who screamed
and cried at night.

I was a shape-shifter
in black leathers
and pink dresses.

I danced on tabletops.
I fixed cars.

I had sex.
I had babies.

I can’t remember
the electricity, the ache
of falling in love.

But I remember love—
the kind that changes diapers,
the kind that holds a dying spouse.

My children grew.
I grew.
We grew apart,
like they were never mine to keep.

Love passed,
love moved away.
I see it across mountains,
and widening rivers.

I write about loss, memory, and the strange humor that keeps us alive. My poems wander between grief and the grace of nature, often pausing to laugh at life.
